Minister highlights efforts to reduce public sector costs to boost trade

35

Asunción, Agencia IP.- The Minister of Industry and Commerce (MIC), Javier Giménez, emphasized the efforts made by state institutions to adopt technology aimed at streamlining management and reducing costs in the areas of imports and exports.

Giménez spoke during the 85th-anniversary celebration of the Paraguayan Importers’ Center (CIP). He noted that these government initiatives are focused on boosting trade and capturing strategic markets.

This modernization is achieved by incorporating technology, combined with the actions of various relevant institutions, to lower tariffs and combat informality in the trade sector.

«The creation of mechanisms to develop logistics infrastructure, streamline procedures, lower exporters’ costs, and fight informality and smuggling—these are the pillars we refer to when discussing free and strengthened trade,» Giménez stated.

Trade opportunities

The Minister also highlighted trade opportunities for national products in several key markets. He pointed out that the European Union is a crucial market where Paraguay must be present, especially for the export of soybeans, meat, and wood. He explained the situation of soybeans, whose primary market is Argentina as raw material, and through which entry is gained to other destinations, mainly the EU.

He also mentioned the potential of the Asian market, stressing the importance of countries in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), representing over 700 million consumers. However, he also emphasized the significance of the Southern Common Market (Mercosur) countries, such as Brazil, which presents a major market opportunity that has yet to be fully tapped.
