Paraguay, among the first countries to present its climate transparency report

7

Asunción, Agencia IP.- Paraguay has become one of the first countries in the region to present its First Biennial Transparency Report (BTR), highlighting the nation’s progress in climate transparency, greenhouse gas (GHG) inventories, adaptation, and mitigation.

The report’s presentation, facilitated by the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development (Mades), reaffirms the country’s commitment to climate action.

«This report marks a significant advance in our environmental policy and represents a crucial step toward a more sustainable future for Paraguay. Together, we will continue to face the challenges of climate change and work toward a more resilient Paraguay,» stated Environment Minister Rolando de Barros.

Since adopting the Paris Agreement in 2015, Paraguay has operated under the Enhanced Transparency Framework, promoting accountability and sustainable development for future generations.

The presentation of the 1BTR signifies a major milestone for Paraguay, particularly given the challenges posed by the new reporting formats, including standard reporting tables for all parties:

– National greenhouse gas inventory: Enhanced, comprehensive, comparable, and updated information.

– Advances in adaptation and vulnerability: Measures taken to strengthen the country’s resilience to the effects of climate change.

– Mitigation and nationally determined contributions (NDCs): Progress in fulfilling commitments in alignment with the Paris Agreement.

– Support received: Details on financing, technology, and capacity-building efforts under the Paris Agreement.

These achievements reflect the coordinated efforts of various key stakeholders in Paraguay, including government institutions, civil society, the private sector, climate-focused actors, and academia.
